Prison Island The prison thereon was never used to house prisoners. At one point in time, the island was used by a slave trader from Arab to prison the troublesome slaves he had brought from the mainland and prevent them from fleeing back. Then he shipped them to Arabian purchasers or for auction in Zanzibar slave trade market. The slaves were dumped on this island. The old prison still remains standing, providing shelter for some of the giant tortoises, imported from the Seychelles in the late 19th century.
Jozani Forest - The forest reserve is being well communicated by both the taxis and public buses. It is one of the last remaining sanctuaries in the world where the red colobus monkey live. Jozani consist of an excellent nature trail and a walk through this dense and impressive flora and fauna is worth a shot. Jozani is still a small, rural village located in the innermost section of the Pete Inlet Bay. The villagers remain dependent on Jozani as a source for firewood, farming, food, fishing, and other stuffs. Spending some time with the locals is awesome.
