Ruaha National Park

RUAHA NATIONAL PARK

MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK

Located in 250km west of Dar es Salaam, the closest national park to the city it has large open plains of grassland, similar to the Serengeti and with Selous Game Reserve it forms a unique eco-system. The park hosts an abundance of animals that include: elephants, zebras, impala, eland, kudu, black antelope, baboons, wildebeests and buffaloes. The recommended time frame for visiting the park is between the months of May and November which is known as the dry season. The weather remains warm and sky is mostly clear which gives once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Udzungwa National Park

UDZUNGWA NATIONAL PARK

  • Location Locating around 360 kilometeres form Dar es Salam
  • Places to visit Rainforest, valleys and mountains, Waterfalls, plunge pools of the waterfalls
  • How to get Drive through Selous Game Resevre. This is a fairly new route constructed by TANAPA and allows the circuit to be driven from Dar to Selous on to Udzungwa, and then to Mikumi and back to Dar. Daily flights from and to Udzungwa/Kilombero to Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar are scheduled. The flights run every afternoon and link Udzungwa to the rest of the safari circuit.

Wildlife Udzungwa National Park supports a diverse, large mammal community including elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, African wild dog, eland, waterbuck and sable. Six species of primate are found here with two are endemic, the Iringa (Uhehe) Red Colobus monkey, and the Sanje Crested Mangabey. Udzungwa has the richest forest bird habitat in Tanzania.

It is possible to visit the park year round, but the dry season lasting from June through October before the short rains is considered best.

Locating around 360 kilometeres form Dar es Salam; the park’s scenery is spectacular, with the rainforest spreading across rolling hills, valleys and mountains. The park has a number of impressive waterfalls. Swimming in the plunge pools of the waterfalls is extremely refreshing following a hot hike. Within the park, there are a number of hiking trails, with spectacular views across the plains and three wonderful waterfalls where you can swim and relax.
